HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MEETINGS OF THE CRC BOARD

BY BOB KING

 July 20

Shocking occurred on the Chattooga River on July 14. Staff from the Forest Service, DNR college interns and TU members measured and counted a good number of trout.

DNR will have an open house in Greenville on August 3.  New trout regulation proposals will be discussed and public comments will be heard.

A report was given by Dave Van Lear regarding stream restoration projects.  The stream committee will meet and discuss potential workdays required for repair of stream structures. The group will also discuss Lake Jocassee tributaries and the White Water River.  Recommendations will be made concerning the expenditure of funds remaining.

CRCTU will provide a letter of support to Partners for Trout to place 15 trout habitat structures in the South Saluda River.

Election of Board Members will occur at the September meeting.

August 17

The CRCTU Board approved a $500.00 donation to Trout Unlimited’s Land Protection Fund.  This donation will support preservation of the North Mills River.

Trout in the classroom will add two new locations this school year.  Approximately $1250.00 will be expended for equipment.

National Hunting and Fishing Day will be held September 25. Volunteers from our chapter are needed to assist with casting and fly tying demonstrations.

Three new board members will be elected at the September chapter meeting.

The Cherokee Boys School has requested a presentation concerning philosophy of TU, fishing equipment, fly casting and fly tying.  Tom McInnis will discuss options with the school.
